Kim Heung-Yeol

Eo Wan-Kyo
Abstract
The Asia-Pacific region contains more than 50% of the world¡¯s population and is made up of ethnically diverse populations representing a wide range of socioeconomic and educational circumstances. Within this region there are large differences in accessibility to information about the menopause, to health care services and to health care professionals with an interest in menopause. The availability of some investigations generally considered desirable for menopausal women e.g. mammogram and bone mineral density, is limited in many regions. Asia-Pacific Menopause Federation (APMF) is a federation of 14 member national societies from across the Asia-Pacific region. The APMF Consensus Statement on the Management of the Menopause 2008 was intended to aid gynaecologists, family physicians and other health-care professionals in providing optimal care to menopausal women in the Asia-Pacific region. It includes broad range of recommendations in the management of menopause, including hormone replacement therapy, healthy lifestyle modification, initial assessment and follow-up evaluation for peri- or postmenopausal women, specific issues in menopause including osteoporosis, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, cognitive impairment and dementia, and finally special considerations in menopause in the Asia Pacific region.
